Helping on the Farm

Helping on the Farm

We are now receiving applications for helpers during the 2020 season. We are offering a few people a life changing experience in farming, homesteading, learning about herbs and wild food, running a seasonal school and the thousand and one skills these tendings entail. While we offer a modest stipend, the work is hard and long so helpers need to primarily interested in the experience and knowledge they’ll receive. You’ll be well fed by the wilds and gardens here.

Time periods
We are looking for 3-4 people for 2-6 week sessions, one from mid-April until end of May and one mid-August to end of September. Applicants are welcome to partake in both sessions or just one. These two periods tend to be our heaviest work load, but have also been stipulated so that we can all have a long break during the early summer.

We are looking for solid people who can work hard everyday, not just through the glorious days, but through the heat, rain, bugs and monotony. Someone who is positive, independent and good with children, and who can fully commit for at least the 6 weeks.

The work
During the Spring session, we’ll be doing some building work, preparing the gardens, planting, weeding, harvesting roots and shoots for medicine and cooking, and preparing for and helping out during our first Sacred Gardener School sessions.

In the Fall session we’ll be harvesting and making medicines, food harvesting, preservation and fermentation, helping with the School and prepping garlic beds. There are always so many other things that come up along the way. We usually work about 6 hour days, 6 days a week, depending on the work load.

Accommodations

Early in the season people stay inside our School building, then camp once it warms up at night. We eat most meals together and can accommodate vegetarians/vegans. We have a hot outdoor shower and outhouse. Helpers are welcome to use the internet once a week. Our cel service is low, but so far helpers have been able to consistently stay in touch.

If you’re interested, use the form below or send us an email along with your CV, and a note as to why you’d like to work with us.
